Cambridge, March 31st, 2016. Renowned adult with autism and author of “Look me in the Eye”, “Be Different” and more, John Elder Robison, will be at the Harvard Book Store along with Harvard Medical School professor of Neurology Alvaro Pascaul-Leon, who wrote the forward to John’s new book Switched On: A Memoir of Brain Change and Emotional Awakening.
This book covers John’s experience after a team of Harvard neuroscientists asked him if he would participate in a study led by Dr. Alvaro Pascual-Leon, a renowned neuroscientist at Harvard University. They wanted to use the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS a new experimental brain therapy to try to effort to understand and then address the issues at the heart of autism and Aspergers. If they could stimulate the outer layer of John’s brain, it might induce it to rewire itself and increase his emotional IQ. Switched On is the extraordinary story of what happened next.
According to this book and John, after many years as a social outcast, misreading others’ emotions or missing them completely, John is suddenly able to sense a powerful range of feelings in other people. However, this newfound insight brings unforeseen problems and serious questions.

About John Elder-Robison:
After a difficult and diagnosed childhood, John was able to eventually have careers in rock music, high tech, and specialty auto, and was officially diagnosed with ASD in his adulthood. Since then, he has become active on boards and committees of the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, Autism Speaks, and a number of universities and colleges, and with legal, ethical, and social issues relating to autism and advocacy. In 2012 Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius named John to the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee.
