Boston, MA, with Virtual Options, Week 2: July 13th-16th: Get Hired: Ready, Set, Apply. Boston Center for Independent Living (BCIL) Youth Program is offering free opportunities for young people ages 14–21 to build independent living and employment skills.
* Eligibility: Students, ages 14-21, with a documented disability (i.e. Individualized Education Plan, 504 plan, other disability documentation). You will be required to submit disability documentation in order to participate.
* Join weekly themed workshops (offered both virtually and in person), community field trips, and hands-on work-based learning experiences like job shadowing.
* They will also be hosting social club activities to connect with peers and two sections of a virtual learner’s permit prep course.
You can decide what you participate in
• Week 1: July 7th-10th: Where oh Where I Work? Week 1 will run Tuesday-Friday Students will learn how to explore different careers and attend a career panel at the Museum of Science.
• Week 2: July 13th-16th: Get Hired: Ready, Set, Apply. Students will learn how to apply to jobs, including making resumes, writing cover letters, and learning about the interview process. Then they will visit the Boston Public Library and learn about employment services and tools.
• Week 3: July 20th-23rd: Find Your Voice, Find Your Way! Students will learn strategies to become fierce advocates for themselves and the disability community and will take a tour of the State House.
• Week 4: July 27th-30th: Making It Work: Accommodations at Work, School, and Life. Students will learn all about accommodations at school, work, and home and visit Easter Seals to learn about Assistive Tech.
• Week 5: August 3rd-August 7th: Future You: College Edition. Students will gain knowledge about the college process and will learn about the Lesley University Threshold program, while getting a tour of the campus!
• Week 6: August 10th-13th: Spend, Save, Succeed! Students will learn how to budget, save, and spend their money responsibly. They will go to TD Bank to learn more about how to manage a bank account!
Week 7: August 17th-August 20th: Next Stop: Adventure! Students will learn about how to travel in the community and complete a Community Scavenger hunt.
