Lexington, MA, July 6th – 23rd, 2026. With the Town of Lexington Recreation Department .Adaptive swim lessons are designed for individuals ages 4 – 11 with a diagnosed disability or medical condition who require individualized instruction. Classes are tailored to each participant’s unique abilities, learning style, and goals.
* A swim membership is required in order to register for swim lessons.
* Because participants have varying skill levels and individualized objectives, these lessons do not follow the American Red Cross curriculum and participants will not “pass” or “complete” specific swim levels.
* Instruction focuses on developing water safety awareness, building swimming skills, increasing comfort and confidence in the water, and working toward individualized goals identified by the participant, family, and instructor.
* Lessons are adapted to meet each swimmers needs while promoting success, independence, and enjoyment in the aquatic environment with the support of Instructors who are Adaptive Swim Whisperers certified.
* Due to limited pool space and the individualized nature of Adaptive Swim Lessons, participants will be assigned to a lesson time and pool location based on the results of their swim assessment and instructional needs.
* Final placement decisions will be based on participant needs, instructor availability, and pool space.
Eligibility Requirements:
* Must be able to demonstrate a safe body by avoiding behaviors that may cause harm to themselves, instructors, or others (e.g., hitting, kicking, biting, throwing objects, or unsafe elopement).
