Amherst, MA, August 7th, 2026, with CHD’s All In: Barrier-Free Recreation. The Springfield Thunderbirds Sled Hocke Hockey offers individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate in the popular winter sport in an inclusive and supportive environment.
* All In partners with the Springfield Thunderbirds and welcomes individuals without disabilities to join.
* The program follows the same rules as traditional “stand-up” hockey, and participants receive a schedule at the start of the season outlining practice dates, times, and tournament opportunities.
Teams/Who Can Participate:
• Junior Team (ages 4-16) competes in the Amelia Park Tournament in April every year
• Adult Recreation Team (ages 16+) competes in the Amelia Park Tournament in April every year
• Competitive Travel Team is a part of the NESH League. The team travels once a month to a different rink to compete in games. Other tournaments: Empire State Games in Lake Placid, NY, and the Amelia Park Tournament. Ages 16+. Tryouts required.
* Anyone with a disability that would prevent them from participating in “stand-up hockey” is a candidate for sled hockey. It is a sport that allows players with mobility limitations & lower limb mobility impairments to play, and requires great upper-body strength, balance, and the ability to handle the puck.
*Able-bodied individuals can play on a team.
