About the speakers:
* Scott E. Lukas, PhD, is the Director of the McLean Hospital Imaging Center, the Behavioral Psychopharmacology Research Laboratory, and the McLean Sleep Diagnostic and Treatment Laboratory. He is Professor of Psychiatry (Pharmacology) at Harvard Medical School and has 42 years of experience conducting both preclinical and human laboratory studies as well as randomized clinical trials of drugs for alcohol abuse, sleep disorders, and psychiatric disorders. He teachesa course at Harvard University entitled Psychopharmacology—Your Brain on Drugs Psychology.
* Michelle Muffett-Lipinski, MEd, is the Founder/Principal of the Northshore Recovery High School, a school program of the Northshore Education Consortium, in Beverly, Massachusetts. She is licensed as a Science Teacher, Principal/Director, Special Education Director, and Superintendent. Michelle is a Recovery Advocate and most recently, she started the PASS program, which offers a non-punitive, restorative approach to student discipline available to districts on Boston’s North Shore.

- Become more aware of how alcohol is used in combination with other drugs like nicotine, cocaine and cannabis and the unique effects these combinations have on developing brains.
- Become more aware of the unique aspects of vaping drugs like nicotine and THC and the impact that this novel route of administration has on the acute and long-term health of our youth.
- Become more aware of the evolving profile of synthetic and prescription opiates play and specifically the dangers of the high potent fentanyl analogs.

Comprehensive Substance Use/Mental Health Interventions and Strategies for Adolescents, Their Families, and the Communities Who Support Them by Michelle Muffett-Lipinski, MEd.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will begin to understand effective interventions based on the presentation of the adolescent’s substance use based on the Transtheoretical Model (Stages of Change) and Motivational Interviewing
- Participants will learn ways to effectively communicate with family members, school staff, community members, treatment providers, and other team members. We will focus on language that is inclusive, non-punitive, and strength-based yet outcome focused.
- Discuss existing mental health and substance use interventions such as MTSS, CASEL, SBIRT, Mattering Theory, and the ways to improve the outcomes of these strategies.
- Participants will actively engage in meaningful dialogue about the existing policies in their field. They will use this information to determine the outcome of various case studies.
